I even requested a Youtuber to play it, and she got someone to sing a cover of it too. The ending theme song, Viator, is really nice. The animation was beautiful and refreshing like the blue sky, and the character designs were so cute. Or maybe the part about the baby growing up made me really emotional. Maybe it’s because I went in with absolutely no knowledge of spoilers. I had to ponder on why I liked it so much. For Maquia, my opinion towards it was totally different. I just saw it as just another moe show about generic high schoolers. I remember the time I watched The Anthem of the Heart in theatres-it was very boring and uninteresting. Maquia’s character development was well played. It’s another show about family and sacrifice. If you liked Clannad, I think you will like Maquia. Credit: Eleven ArtsĪnyways, I’ll stop talking about him and Nagi no Asu for now (because I can talk forever about him and the show). The dub sounded so wonderful in the trailer. That was how invested he was into the series. If you go to his Twitter, it’s full of Nagi no Asukara. It was his first time drawing for a fantasy series, he said, so for reference he had to refer to emotions he had when he was a kid. He said in an interview that in Nagi no Asukara, he had put his entire soul into the art. The way he draws his skies differs according to the setting and the atmosphere of the show.
His clean 3-D backgrounds fits perfectly for the modern anime today. In the land of Iolph, all the people stop aging in. One resident, Maquia, feels lonely despite the peaceful and idyllic land she lives in. He’s worked on the backgrounds for Angel Beats, Hanasaku Iroha, and Nagi no Asukara. In the land of Iolph, all the people stop aging in their mid-teens and can live for hundreds of years. If you’ve never heard of him, or vaguely remembered his complicated name, let me do an introduction. It was from his Twitter where I learned he was working on this new film.
I’m also a big fan of the background artist, the famous Kazuki Higashiji. She worked on Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day and The Anthem of the Heart: Beautiful Word, Beautiful World. So, I was eager to watch this. I’m sure you must of heard of her-she’s known for her works with long titles. I watched Maquia this summer with a special someone! I watched it in theatres this summer with a special someone and teared up in a few parts. It goes under the high fantasy category but the central themes is around universal human values. It is a film about motherhood and sacrifice. Her immortality complicates her existence alongside mortals, and it's this contrast that drives the drama, emotion, and unique storytelling power of Maquia, making it a must-watch experience. In the conflict, Maquia is flung into the mortal world where a chance encounter will change her life forever. The Iorph live a long and peaceful life until the ambitious military forces of the nation of Mezarte invade in a plot to secure the Iorph's near immortality for themselves. These long-lived, childlike people live far from the lands of mortal men and are tasked with weaving tapestries chronicling the day's events, known as Hibiol.
All of that plot provides the action of Maquia, but the unique narrative power of the piece lies within the title character herself, a legendary being known as an Iorph. It's a tale of a world in which legends still exist but are fading, a world that's based on a feudal system that is moving into medieval industry and weapons of war, a world that, much like our own, exists in a tenuous state of peace that threatens to break out into all-out conflict.
